Today's Jewelry - 22 January 2010
Friday, January 22, 2010 at 6:28PM I was the kind of kid who would read dictionaries for fun, so I've always liked words. Call me a nerd, but it’s fascinating to me how some words sound and the journey they took to enter the English language.
Cloissonné is one of my favorite jewelry words. I think it's pronounced like "Kloy-zone-hay" but since I don't speak French, I can't be certain. These hearts are made by taking a metal shell and tracing the outline of a design, leaving a slightly raised border. Then the spaces are filled with enamel to create a vivid, colorful design. Floral motifs are common, but I've seen birds, stars and abstracts designs as well.
I attached a cluster of beads in complementary colors and voilá! - beautiful earrings that can pair with a little black dress or a pair of jeans.
