Prêt-à-porter jewelry for Fall 2010 – H&M

Racks of faux pearl, black bead and cameo necklace at H&MOne of the things I love about costume jewelry displays at larger retailers, is the way necklaces and bracelets look grouped together on the peg or rack. Like this picture taken at H&M.  The necklaces here a pretty elaborate and layered taken one at a time, but seen together like this - it’s stunning, almost like an art installation piece.

H&M is where I go when I want the trendiest, fast fashion jewelry fix and their Fall collection (if you can call it that) is right up that alley.  They definitely got the message about black and white jewelry this season.  I barely saw any color at the outpost I visited on Chicago’s State street.  Metallics played a bigger role setting off the black and white beads and pushing them to warmer or cooler tones overall.  One thing I noticed and loved immediately was the use of cameos in several pieces.  If you have a chance, their embellished hoop earrings are definitely worth checking out. A cameo is strung with several charms along an oversized hoop.  This is a bold choice, but a refreshing way to re-work a classic piece of jewelry. If big earrings aren’t your style this same design is worked in bangle bracelets, and the necklace pictured on the left.

At H&M the compromise between trendiness and lasting quality is firmly decided on the side of trendy. However, at these prices and with fresh offerings all the time, I don’t mind that I won’t be passing these on to future generations.
